November 2018 Newsletter
Been carded lately?Surrounding someone in love can take on many forms. But when that love comes from all over the United States, what does it look like? A Facebook follower from the southeast, Michelle, contacted Phoebe Comfort Dog and asked for a card. She wanted to memorize Phoebe’s Bible verse. The card was mailed along with the SW Region dogs’ cards and the response from Michelle was so heartwarming. How could she get the other dogs’ cards.
So began the gathering of love from the 24 states where the dogs are located. Top Dogs and Social Media people responded with K-9, Kare-9 and K-9 Police cards. There were even some dogs-in-training cards added. We wish we could have seen the look on Michelle’s face when she opened the box and found ALL of the cards sent her way. She has an exciting time ahead of her as she memorizes all of the dogs’ Bible verses. We pray the verses will speak to her individually and collectively and let her know how much she is loved by all of us. BUT the story doesn’t end there. When the comment was made on Phoebe’s FB page, a follower of Lois Comfort Dog commented she had been collecting the dogs’ cards for her granddaughter who had been injured by a dog and now was terribly afraid. She further said Lois had been helping her granddaughter overcome her fear. Some teams sent duplicate cards and those were forwarded to Lois’s team to share in this situation as well. More love and compassion shared from afar! |
We are thankfulAre you following along with Britany St. Clair's scripture writing plan that Phoebe is sharing on facebook during the month of November?
What about Pax's thankful Thursdays? There are so many things for which we can express our gratitude during this season. We are especially thankful for each of you who encourage and support the comfort dog ministry program. |
2 Ladies + 2 Dogs = Four-bulous FunDo you travel around the United States a lot? Is there travel in your future? Recently we met two awesome women from the Midwest who realized while they were traveling in Texas, they might have a chance to meet an LCC K-9 Comfort Dog. They contacted us through Facebook and asked to meet Pax – would that be possible and could Phoebe come too? We were so excited to meet Cindy and Lisa but in spite of our excitement, it paled in comparison to theirs.
They had seen the LCC Comfort Dogs on Facebook but unfortunately, the state they live in does not have one – YET! They were eager to see the dogs in person and see how they acted, reacted, and interacted with people. From the smiles on their faces and the kind words they shared, I think we can safely assume they hope to meet more LCC Comfort Dogs in the future. SO if you happen to be in one of the 26 states that does not yet have an LCC Comfort Dog, consider where you might be close to one as you travel. Washington State, Maryland and New York are already in line to receive a dog. We really look forward to the day we can say there is an LCC Comfort Dog in every state! |
Make a Wish Train
Do you like riding on a train? If so, imagine how much more fun the ride would be if it involved taking a ride on a vintage Burlington Northern-Santa Fe (BNSF) Make a Wish Train. Saturday, October 27, we were delighted to be invited to board with over 300 wonderful children and their families. The occasion – the 10th anniversary ride for this great organization. Along with Phoebe and Pax were Triton Comfort Dog (Plano) and Elijah Comfort Dog (Wichita Falls). These four dogs comprise the North Texas LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs. Many costumed characters also joined in the fun on the train. From clowns to Batman to female super heroes, they walked the length of the train and greeted the children.
Children also received backpacks filled with remembrances including an LCC stuffed dog. Our job? We did what we could to make even the most shy child feel loved and comforted. Sometimes that was easy and for others, it took the length of the trip for them to realize we are calm and quiet and not to be afraid. From the smiles on departure, we decided the trip was a real success. We were very blessed to attend and look forward to returning next year with even more of our Comfort Dog friends. |
