Comfort Team Orlando 2016
If I travel 2126 air miles, 325 ground miles, and meet up with eleven other comfort dogs and their 20 humans, what can I accomplish? Lots! That’s exactly what happened last week when my team and I flew to Orlando, Florida, to work within the community following the shooting that occurred that left 49 people dead and many more injured. Thanks to Trinity Lutheran Church in Orlando and “Pastor Billy” who was able to gain access for us to meet people who were in need of some golden comfort. Traveling around the city and to some of the outskirt areas, we visited hospitals, firehouses, 911 centers, city hall, medical examiners office, the emergency operation center, vigils…
We met hundreds and hundreds of people from all walks of life from the Florida Governor Rick Scott, to first responders, to housekeepers, to city hall staff, to people on the streets, to nurses and doctors, to Pulse employees who are now not only hurting but also unemployed, and the list goes on. When we were out and about, people stopped to talk to us and some could barely talk. There is healing that will have to occur in this city. It may take a while but we pray God’s blessing of love and compassion for all who were affected by this horrific tragedy.
