Kare 9 Military Ministry

It is with great pride our Fort Worth, Texas based Comfort Dog ministry participates in the Kare 9 Military ministry.  Our Kare 9 Military ministry will travel anywhere in Texas to comfort those in need.

Following the successful launch of the K-9 Comfort Dog ministry, Lutheran Church Charities realized the military segment of the population would benefit from a similar program. 
  • Veterans who were willing to be trained were identified.
  • These veterans received handler training and Kare-9 teams were begun.
  • In order to further spread this ministry, congregations where dogs were already in service were asked to consider adding veteran handlers and dual-vesting their dogs.
  • This ministry continues to be a growing segment of the Comfort Dog program.
Through invitations from various veterans and military organizations, we have visited or attended:
  • Veterans' hospitals
  • Veterans' homes and living centers
  • Vietnam Veteran Welcome Home Ceremonies
  • Fund raisers for veteran organizations
  • Gold Star events
