At least three times a year, we are honored to visit with Veterans in Temple and Waco, Texas, plus active military at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas. Besides spending time with them and hearing their great stories, we thank them for their service and present them with a handmade quilt which bears a tag with the quilter's name and location and a Bible verse. Over the many trips, we have heard comments like ... someone made this for me? Or ... why would someone make me something so beautiful? Or ... I'm going to request to be buried with this quilt. It is so beautiful. These trips are emotional ones for our teams but we all agree when we leave we can't wait to go again.

Two ways to help

Make quilts. Join with us on this project. The quilts can be any size but lap size  40"x 40" works best. That way they don't get in the way of the wheelchairs or walkers. Red, white and blue woven cotton/poly fabric is used. The batting is a natural batting made by Hobbs that goes by a lot of different names but basically it's 80/20. The quilt needs to be machine quilted for laundry purposes. It doesn't have to be elaborate quilting but it needs to be durable for washing.

Send us the UPC's from Hobbs batting.Do you know a quilter? We need their Hobbs UPC's. The type we use is made in Waco, TX, by Hobbs. Because the quilts are being made and presented by a nonprofit, Hobbs allows us to purchase large rolls of the batting at reduced pricing when we provide ten UPC's from packages of their batting. The batting goes by different names like the Heirloom one you see here. Some people call it 80/20. But if the package you have says Hobbs, we could certainly use your UPC to purchase more rolls.

You can mail them to us - St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1800 West Freeway, Ft Worth 76102. Thank you so much for your support of this great project.

Quilt Partners

Between the ladies (the Sew and Sews) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Riesel, TX and a seemingly tireless Sarah Rheinlaender from St. Paul Lutheran, Ft. Worth, work is continuing on more patriotic lap quilts to deliver to veterans in late April. Through the benefit of Thrivent Financial Teams, fabric, thread and batting are being purchased for the sewing.
